Daily Southern Cross 1871.

VAGRANTS: Mary Walton was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for being an habitual drunkard. Anthony E. Cowen was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for having no lawful means of support."- February 21, 1871.


“Last night an old fellow, named Anthony E Cowen, was arrested by Sergeant Egan, charged with wilfully and maliciously breaking a pane of glass in a window in the house of G.A Christy.”

"“ Police Court. Malicious Injury To Property- Anthony E. Cowen was charged by A. Christy with breaking a pane of glass, value 5 shillings. Sentenced to be imprisoned.”- July 1, 1871



"DRUNKENNESS- William Arthur, James Good, Eliza Hughes, John Dagleish, Thomas Fagan, Anthony Cowan and William Stephenson, for this offence, were each fined in the usual manner."- September 5, 1871.

"DRUNKENNESS- William Burton was fined 5 shillings and costs for being drunk. Anthony E. Cowen, for being drunk a third time, was sent to gaol for seven days."- September 8, 1871.
