The children of Rosa Corvan and Robert Brown

1.PENELOPE BROWN

Penelope Brown was the first child born to English emigrants Robert Brown and Rosa Corvan. She was born in February, 1871, and was named after her paternal grandmother, Penelope Gray.

  Penelope grew up in Victoria’s central gold mining district, around Huntly and Kamarooka, where her father worked as a miner. In 1894, aged 23 years, she married William Grose, and the couple raised a family of ten children out of the twelve born to them:

• Winifred Marion Grose: b 1895, Eaglehawk. Married Robert Russell in 1923.
• Leslie Thomas Grose: b 1896, Kamarooka. Died 1964, Birchip. Married Jean Isobell Anderson in 1928.
• Anne Grose: b 1900, Kamarooka. Died 1900, Kamarooka.
• May Grose: b 1900, Kamarooka. Died 1900, Kamarooka. Twin of Anne.
• William John Grose: b 1901, Kamarooka. Died 1984, Albert Park. Married Kathleen Hilda Kelly, 1928(Kathleen died 1933, Carlton).
• Ethel Doris Grose: b 1903, Kamarooka
• Constance Elizabeth Grose: b 1905, Kamarooka.
• Edward Corvan Grose: b 1907, Kamarooka. Died 1967, Footscray. Married Jessie Irene Hanson, 1935.
• Ella Lillian May Grose: b 1909, Kamarooka. Married Percival Neale, 1930.
• Cyril Charles Grose: b 1910, White Hills, Victoria. Died 1974.
• Mavis Thelma Grose: b 1912, Kamarooka.
* Jean born c. 1913

Penelope Brown Grose died in 1934 at Huntly, aged 62.
