7. Mary Ann Brown.

Mary Ann Brown was born on September 26, 1887, at Kamarooka, Victoria.After her schooling was completed in Kamarooka, she married Robert Richard Newton in 1912 at the age of 25 years. He had been born in the Bendigo district in 1888, the son of John Newton and Sarah Lucas.
Mary Ann and Robert had a family of four daughters:
* Rosa May Newton born 1913, Carlton.
*Doris Irene Newton born 1916, Carlton.
*Mavis Newton born 1918, Carlton. Died 1920, South Melbourne, aged 2 years.
*Vera Newton born 1922.

Robert supported his family by working on the Melbourne trams. In 1914 the Electoral rolls have Robert and Mary Ann Newton living at 124 Napier Street, South Melbourne in 1914, with Robert being a 'tram employee' and Mary Ann involved in 'Home duties'.
In 1919 the Newton family were living at 70 Brooke Street, South Melbourne. The following year they lost their little two year old daughter Mavis, then on April 17, 1923, at the Homeopathic Hospital in South Melbourne, 35 year old Robert Richard Newton died of chronic cardio and renal disease. His children were aged just 10(Rosa), 7 (Doris) and 6 months(Vera).
He was buried in the Coburg Cemetery, and Mary Ann was left a widow with three little girls to raise.
The 1924 Electoral Roll finds her living at 227 Moray Street, South Melbourne, with her mother Rosa Constance Brown for support. By 1931,the year her mother died, Mary Ann was back at 124 Napier Street, South Melbourne.
She never remarried, and died in Hawthorn in 1970, aged 82 years.
